Inter are the champions of Italy in football. Inter secured their 21st title in history on Sunday night with a 2:0 home victory over Parma.
The match was the 35th round of Serie A. Three rounds before the end, Inter is the leader with 82 points, a full 12 more than second-place Napoli. And Cristian Chivu's team can no longer be reached by the other teams in the Italian elite.
A draw was enough for Inter to secure the title. But the great team from Milan scored a victory to celebrate the title in style.
Marcus Thuram scored the first goal in the first minute of first-half stoppage time. Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the second goal in the 80th minute.
Up until one point in the championship, the competition in Italy was strong. Then Inter gradually began to break away, mainly due to the fact that Napoli and Milan, but also the other leading teams, dropped too many points.
Inter won their 20th title two years ago. A year ago, Napoli was declared champion.
Juventus is by far the most successful team in Italy with a total of 36 titles. Inter is second with 21 titles, now two more than Milan who have 19. The other clubs have fewer than ten championship titles.
