The team where Argentine superstar Lionel Messi plays, Inter Miami, has made official the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro on Wednesday.
Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner, has joined the American team as a free agent after his contract with Manchester United expired. He was at United for the last three seasons. He has signed a one-year contract with Inter Miami, with the option to extend until June 2029.
Casemiro had his most successful period at Real Madrid in Spain, where he played 336 games, scored 31 goals and provided 29 assists. He won 18 major trophies with the Madrid club.
He was part of Brazil in the 2026 World Cup. Inter Miami has gathered a lot of stars, although at a late stage of their careers.
Inter Miami being investigated over Casemiro transfer
The United States' MLS league has said it has launched an investigation into alleged manipulation by Inter Miami after the club signed Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
On Wednesday, Miami announced that it had signed the 34-year-old, who left Manchester United at the end of the season.
Inter Miami also announced that Casemiro will be part of the club for the 2027 edition, with the option to extend until June 2029.
But just a short time later, MLS released a statement saying it was "looking into allegations of manipulation" against the club.
"The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete," MLS added.
"While Inter Miami and LA Galaxy have reached an agreement for first-mover advantage (first-mover rights) to sign Casemiro, terms will be announced upon completion of the manipulation investigation."
The Los Angeles Galaxy held the scouting rights to Casemiro, but in the transfer announcement, Inter Miami said it had acquired the rights from the Galaxy.
Casemiro announced in January that he would leave Old Trafford at the end of the season after his contract was terminated.
Casemiro made 160 appearances for United, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists. He won the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.
