Sao Paulo also expressed condolences, as did the governing body of soccer in South America.

Izquierdo was taken to hospital after collapsing on the pitch last Thursday. The hospital then announced that the footballer had "cardio-respiratory arrest related to his cardiac arrhythmia".

On Monday, doctors at Albert Einstein Hospital said that Izquierdo was experiencing increased intracranial pressure.

Izquierdo was activated as a substitute for the club from Uruguay, while he collapsed in the 84th minute, without having contact with the opponent.

He started his career in 2018 at the local club Herro.
