France striker Hugo Ekitike will miss the World Cup after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon during Liverpool's defeat by PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Ekitike left the field at Anfield on a stretcher in the first half.
Liverpool fear the 23-year-old will not be able to play at the start of the new season.
On Thursday, Liverpool did not give an exact time for his return to the field.
Ekitike joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer. He has been one of Liverpool's best in a difficult season with 17 goals and six assists in all competitions.
Ekitika's absence is considered a serious blow to both France and the great English club.
