Special punishment in Brazil – suspension until the injured player returns

brazilian penalty

Inter Porto Alegre defender Victor Gabriel has been suspended from Brazilian football until Cruzeiro striker Gabriel Pec returns to training after breaking his leg.

The sentence was handed down this week by Brazil's Supreme Court of Sports Justice, which is the country's highest body for sports discipline.

The court considered the standard sentence, taking into account the severity of the incident. Pec suffered a fractured left leg after a tackle by Victor Gabriel in a league match on July 22.

The suspension is limited to 180 days, but could end sooner if Pec receives medical clearance to return to training before that time.

The defense attorney has apologized.

The Brazilian Code of Sports Justice provides for a suspension penalty that matches the injured player's recovery time, in cases where the tackles are dangerous and the injuries are serious.
