The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Thursday (February 13th) rejected the Romanian Football Federation's (RFF) appeal against UEFA's sanctions for the match against Kosovo.
CAS has found that UEFA's sanctions against the Romanian Football Association are proportionate to the violations committed.
The CAS panel noted that the Romanian Federation did not contest the violation of UEFA regulations (racist and discriminatory behavior of fans and the transmission of provocative messages), but contested the disciplinary sanctions.
"The panel decided that the violations committed by the Romanian fans were serious and that the sanctions were in accordance with the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations and not disproportionate. Consequently, the contested decision was upheld by the CAS panel," the court's announcement said.
The Romanian Federation appealed to CAS, arguing that UEFA's penalties against it were too high. UEFA recorded the match with an official score of 3:0 in favor of Romania, but fined the Romanian Federation 128 thousand euros and ordered the match to be played behind closed doors.

The Romania – Kosovo match took place on November 15 in Bucharest. In the extra minutes, when the score was 0:0, a clash broke out between players on the field. Chants of “Serbia, Serbia” were heard in the stands and the Kosovo players left the field. They refused to return to continue the match, although the referee of the match, the Danish Morten Krogh, asked them to do so. The referee then came onto the field and signaled the end of the match.
Meanwhile, regarding the appeal of the Football Federation of Kosovo, CAS has said that it is still under review. The FFK did not clarify what request it has made to the court.
