Bejtullai happy with return to Macedonia V., aims for victory against Denmark

Drita defender Egzon Bejtullai was confident that the match against England, on June 19, 2023, would not be his last in the North Macedonian shirt.

And Bejtullai has been invited to North Macedonia after three years. 

He has been included in coach Goce Sedloski's list for the semi-final match of the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff against Denmark.

The match is played in Copenhagen on March 26.

"To be honest, I expected to receive an invitation," Bejtullai told KOHA on Monday. "Of course, every player, when he is at his best, expects an invitation from the national team coach, knowing that we have been at the right level with the team both in European competitions and in the championship."

The 32-year-old plays in the center of defense. He has played 27 games for North Macedonia, from 2018 onwards.

He was last active in the 7:0 defeat to England. It was a qualifying match for Euro 2024, and Bejtullai came on in the second half.

Bejtullai played in Euro 2020. He appeared against Austria. He hopes to play against Denmark in Copenhagen and also in the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

"Denmark is a strong national team with quality players, but we also have very quality players and we are a very good group. In football, anything is possible. We will give our best to get a positive result," said Bejtullai.

He has been playing in Kosovo since 2023. He initially joined Gjilan, while in 2024 he moved to Drita. With Drita he won the title, while appearing in the Conference League playoffs. He has won everything that can be won in North Macedonian football with Shkëndija of Tetovo. For a short period he also played for Helsingborg in Sweden, while he has also appeared for Teteks. 

For the first time, Imran Fetai has received an invitation from North Macedonia, while Visar Musliu, Ezgjan Alioski, Enis Bardhi, Reshat Ramadani, Isnik Alimi and Lirim Qamili are also present.

Bejtulla's contribution to North Macedonia has also been appreciated by coach Sedloski.

"Of course, we have made some refreshes where we thought it was necessary. There are three debutants on the list, Fetai, Herrera and Musovski. Doriev, Nikolov and Bejtullai are also returning to the team. They are players who know the system and atmosphere in the national team well and who have made important contributions in the past," said Sedloski.
