According to Sunderland, Brobbey was targeted online after the 1-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

"Sunderland strongly condemns the racist abuse directed at Brian Brobbey on social media following the match with Tottenham," Sunderland wrote in a statement.

It is not the first time that Sunderland players have been the target of racist abuse. And Sunderland believes that the latest abuse is not an isolated incident.

Netherlands international Broobey was involved in a second-half incident at the Stadium of Light when he pushed Tottenham defender Cristian Romero towards his own goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. The injured Romero then left the pitch in tears.
