A sculptural installation within which visitors will delve into feminized work and inequalities in the workplace is what the Kosovo Pavilion will offer at the International Art Biennale in Venice. "Ringing Silences of Metal and Leather" will take place in the Historical Museum of the Navy between the two exhibition spaces, the Arsenale and the Giardini.
In a press conference held at the National Gallery of Kosovo, the state pavilion team revealed some details of this year's representation. But politics spoke first. The Minister of Culture, Hajrulla Çeku, has indicated that the selection process of artists representing the state will be transferred to the National Gallery of Kosovo.
The artist Doruntina Kastrati has shown that the sculptures will be the basis of what Kosovo tells in this year's edition of the International Art Biennale in Venice, the 60th in a row. He clarified that the long working hours of women and the need for them to place metal prostheses on their knees was the starting point of the conception of the installation. As an example, he also mentioned his mother, an employee of the sausage factory.
Without dwelling on the details that Kastrati talked about, the curator Erëmira Krasniqi has elaborated the concept on which the narrative of Kosovo is built in this year's Biennale, which has as its general theme "Foreigners Everywhere" with the Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa.
The Commissioner of the Kosovo Pavilion, Hana Halilaj, has said that the change of the exhibition location from the "Arsenale" space to the Historical Museum of the Navy is adapted to the presentation that will take place there.
The Kosovo Pavilion will open on April 20 to receive visitors and will be open until November 24, 2024.
