The purchase of books and their distribution in libraries in Kosovo and beyond, is seen as support for authors and publishers, but also as a way to attract readers and increase interest in the book. On Monday at noon, the Ministry of Culture promoted the event and according to it, 32 public libraries in the cities of Kosovo, as well as in Preševo, Ulcinj and Bitola, were given 604 book titles. This event, traditional of the institution, is considered an investment in knowledge and enrichment of the offer for readers.
This is how the Deputy Minister of Culture, Daulina Osmani, assessed it. He announced that the donated books and magazines were purchased this year and last year.
"Donating titles to the country's libraries does not only mean a worthy enrichment of the collections, but also means an investment in knowledge, in readability and in the enrichment of our offer to readers and book lovers. Among these titles we find many literary genres and various magazines which were purchased by the Ministry of Culture during 2023 and 2024".
Deputy Minister Osmani mentioned the budget of one million euros for the purchase, publication and direct support of authors.
"The increase in the number of books that are being donated this year, besides being the accumulation of the purchase of books over two years, is also the continuous series of support and attention of MKRS to the book. From a fund we had of 160 thousand euros for the book, we increased it to one million euros, including purchase, publication, direct support for the author. This is a step forward for strengthening the role of the author, publishing houses, bookstores and libraries in the cultural life of Kosovo".

Nerimane Kamberi, head of the Book Council, whose new composition was appointed in August of this year, said that the budget was the first issue that was discussed in the first constitutive meeting with Minister Hajrulla Çeku. She expressed her happiness that the Albanian municipalities outside Kosovo have not been forgotten. While talking about the book and the readers, he said that there is no crisis in this regard.
"The book, the readers, are not in crisis. Of course we have many challenges, the Council, all the members, together with me and all the staff of the minister will work to promote the book more with that budget and of course this donation in the municipalities is also a proof of the work that has been done until now and what will be done".
The director of the National Library of Kosovo, Blerina Rogova-Gaxha, has said that the enrichment of the book fund makes communication through the book as "one of the safest and often aesthetic cognitive processes, especially for those readers who appreciate the work and recognize its importance her".
"Books are often referred to as eternal candles of knowledge and knowledge that accumulate and lead to awareness and thus to happiness. So supporting them with their purchase certainly conveys this feeling. The library being one of the most important institutions in the preservation of the intellectual and cultural heritage, in the preservation of collective wisdom, their role is missionary and this makes the role of the municipal and national libraries particularly vital in the preservation of the cultural, intellectual and in documenting the history of Kosovo".
