"Reviews" opens the infinite world of Violeta Xhaferi

Half a century of Violeta Xhaferi's creativity comes with a hundred works and there unfolds an infinite world of her multidimensional art. The exhibition also explores the memories in those works where the artist documents - the exodus of Albanians and the war in Kosovo - and others are also her reactions to social phenomena. Her activity as a costume designer is also a chapter, but the exhibition "Reviews" does not stop there.

It is just a sample of Xhafer's work, connecting the tools and materials with which he returns to his mind 20 years after he last exhibited at the Gallery. Her art was even the first by a woman to exhibit there.

Full color, most of the works are of the same dimensions in the first exhibition room at the entrance of the Gallery. The horizon seems endless, until voices from another part are heard. It is a Norwegian television documentary dedicated to the artist Xhaferi.

Reality is woven with imagination in her work, even by presenting the hero and his other version. The works deal with social and political issues, such as life amidst the chaos in the country.

It is "Click" that comes as a critique of the media and comes as an exhibition within an exhibition, made between 2000 and 2002.

The artist Xhaferi said that she worked on the works of this cycle as therapy for her to share the situation created in Kosovo.

"I worked on these after I had a very heavy feeling. When the war started, I started making paintings, they are classically these, with themes from the exodus. It has served me as a therapy to remove longing and pain. However, then I completed it with an installation of paintings. When I say installation, people are used to seeing things in the middle of the gallery. Actually, this was a kind of installation with paintings".

In two small rooms, on the upper floor, another stage of the artist's activity took place - costume design. Violeta Xhaferi was the first costume designer in the country.

The curator of the exhibition "Reviews", Hana Halilaj, said that the exhibition presents the opus of the artist Xhaferi in certain stages.

"There are somewhere around 100 works that include Violeta's work since she was a student at the Academy, then as the first academically trained costume designer and her contribution to the National Theater of Kosovo, but also as an applied arts artist. Then the transition to the medium of painting in the 90s until these last ten years when she has been working with fabrics, which make a kind of mix with textiles, even as a painter".

The retrospective exhibition is completed with archival materials, where on a number of exhibition tables there are also materials such as manuscripts and activity contracts such as costuming, awards won, catalogs, newspaper titles written for him and other personal documents.

Minister Hajrulla Çeku has appreciated a special artist with extraordinary creativity.

"Here we have a summary of 50 years of creativity in about 100 different works from painting to graphics, costume design, video, installation and others. This year, Violeta Xhaferi has also been announced as the laureate of the annual Visual Arts Award for 2022. I congratulate her once again publicly, because when we shared the awards I didn't have the chance to meet her physically.

Artist Zake Prelvukaj has said that Xhaferi is among the best artists for her and that she also sees the artist's intelligence in her art.

"I will always say and declare that there is nothing better in the world than someone leading you well. Violeta Xhaferi is otherwise a national asset, not only Kosovar, and I can say that the time of a good artist, regardless of the fact that I knew her and grew up with her, the years pass and she will be an artist who will also be a museum and her work and will serve each artist as a special study".

The exhibition was opened on the day of the death of the first director of GKK, Shyqri Nimani. The exhibition that will remain open until August 15 is dedicated to the outstanding artist.
