Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has challenged his teammates to show what they are capable of when they kick off their 2026 World Cup campaign against France on June 16.
For Senegal, it will be the second time they face France in the group stage of the World Cup.
In 2002, the African team defeated France 1-0 in the opening match.

Letter to the Reader — Why We're Asking for Your Support Contribute"All our opponents have quality, especially France, who have excellent players in every department. That's why we play football, to be able to face and test ourselves against the best players on the planet. And now, in the first match of the World Cup, we have the opportunity to do exactly that. It depends on how we use our potential and whether we show what we are capable of doing," Senegal captain Mendy told FIFA.
In Group I, Senegal will also have to deal with Norway and Iraq.
Senegal will be appearing at the World Cup for the fourth time.
