Mexico has started the 2026 World Cup with a victory.
The first match of the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA, held at the iconic "Azteca" stadium in Mexico City, was won by Mexico 2:0 against South Africa.
Julian Quinones in the ninth minute and Raul Jimenez in the 67th minute scored the winning goals.
Three red cards were issued in the second half. Yaya Sithole and Themba Zwane were sent off for South Africa, while Cesar Montes was sent off for Mexico.
Also in Group A are the Czech Republic and South Korea.
