Manchester City midfielder Rodri will undergo back surgery next week, City manager Enzo Maresca has announced.
Rodri had injured his knee ligaments in 2024 and has been out for a long time. This summer, he led Spain as captain to victory in the World Cup. He was named the best player of the World Cup.
Maresca has not said how long Rodri will be out, but has stressed that he wants him to remain part of the squad. There is speculation about the Spaniard's future.
"For great players there is always speculation, so I'm not worried about that. I think it's normal after he won the World Cup. He's one of the best players and I think every coach wants to have Rodri," said Maresca.
"But he has the operation now, on Monday I think, and he needs rest. He needs to rest, recover and then he will be back with us."
