Albanian midfielder Granit Xhaka made history on Saturday with his appearance for Switzerland against Qatar at the 2026 World Cup. He became the player with the most appearances for the Swiss national team in world championships, along with Ricardo Rodriguez.
Both now have 13 appearances for the Swiss national team. The previous record was held by Xherdan Shaqiri, who has retired from Switzerland.

Before the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, Xhaka has also appeared with Switzerland in the 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
He is the captain of Switzerland.
