The Ghanaian government has criticized Canadian authorities for their decision to deny entry to Villarreal footballer Thomas Partey.
Ghana international Partey was denied entry into Canada on Friday. The Villarreal player had his visa application rejected by the Canadian government.
Former Arsenal player Partey has an open case in England after being accused of rape and sexual assault in July last year. He pleaded not guilty in September, while he awaits a court ruling.
"The Government of the Republic of Ghana expresses its deep concern regarding Canada's harsh and grossly unfair decision. While respecting Canada's sovereign right to enforce its immigration laws, Ghana considers that reliance on unsubstantiated allegations, without a final judicial decision, raises serious questions about the fairness and proportionality of this decision," the statement said.
Partey, 33, will miss Ghana's opening World Cup match against Panama on June 18.
