FIFA releases World Cup squads

A record number of 1.248 players from 48 football representatives are on the final World Cup lists published by FIFA on Tuesday.

The list of players includes Argentina's Lionel Messi, Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Mexico's Guillermo Ochoa, who will be appearing at the World Cup for a record sixth time.

At the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, 357 players have been to the World Cup at least once, while 891 players are in the biggest international football event for the first time.

Scotland's Craig Gordon is the oldest on the list at 43 years and 162 days. Mexico's Gilberto Mora is the youngest. He is 17 years and 240 days. Seven players are 40 years or older. 

Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan and Uzbekistan are appearing in the World Cup for the first time.
According to FIFA regulations, substitutions on player lists are only permitted due to injury or serious illness up to 24 hours before a team's first match. Any exceptions must be approved by FIFA.
