A senior US military official said earlier reports of a rocket fired at a base housing US forces in Iraq on Monday were a false alarm.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly, said that "debris from a faulty Iranian missile targeting Israel had raised an alarm" about an imminent attack on the Ain al-Assad base that houses US troops in western Iraq.
"There was no attack on the base," he said.
