Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signaled that a powerful attack on an oil refinery in Moscow, carried out by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on Thursday, was a response to a Russian attack on the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra monastery.
He has said that if Ukraine burns, Moscow will burn too.
Zelensky also stressed the need to end the war.
"We do not want this war and have never wanted it, everyone knows this, and our partners know this, and we certainly do not want Ukraine to burn because of the enemy. But if Ukraine burns, your Moscow will burn too. So, we emphasize once again that it is time to end the aggression, time to end this war," Zelensky said during a message communication with journalists.
Ukraine has struck an oil refinery in Moscow for the second time in a week, causing the disruption of commercial flights at Moscow airports, in one of its largest drone attacks since the Russian invasion more than four years ago, Russian officials said on Thursday.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down 555 Ukrainian drones over multiple regions overnight, with nearly 200 intercepted as they approached the Russian capital.
