Zelensky: More than 46,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed by Russian invasion

Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that more than 46,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since Russia's full invasion in February 2022.

Ten days earlier, on February 6, Zelensky said that 45,100 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed and about 390,000 wounded. Military experts in Ukraine and the West believe the number could be much higher, the BBC reports.

Zelensky has also said that 19,500 Ukrainian children have been deported to Russia.

Russia has not published battlefield losses, but UK Defence Intelligence estimated in December that an average of 1,523 Russian soldiers were killed and wounded each day.

Zelensky says up to 350,000 Russian soldiers have been killed but other reports suggest the number could be much higher.
