Outgoing President Joe Biden's decision has divided Democrats on Capitol Hill.

Jared Polis, the Democratic governor of Colorado, criticized Biden's decision.

"While as a father I certainly understand President Joe Biden's natural desire to help his son by pardoning him, I am disappointed that he put his family before his country," Polis told X.

"This is a bad precedent that can be abused by future presidents and will unfortunately damage his reputation," added Polis.

Arizona Congressman Greg Stanton, also a Democrat, said Biden was wrong with the decision.

"This was not a politically motivated prosecution," Stanton said, also in X.

"Hunter committed crimes and was convicted by a jury of his peers," he added.

On the other hand, the former democratic presidential candidate, Andreë Yang, wrote in X that this is what every father would do.

"Joe Biden's apology to Hunter seems bad, but most fathers would do the same under these circumstances," he wrote.
