United States President Donald Trump announced a three-day ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine on Friday.
Starting from May 9th to May 11th, according to Trump, there will be a halt to all combat activities and an exchange of 1000 prisoners from each country.
"Hopefully it will be the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly and difficult war," he added, noting that there has been continued progress in talks to end the war.
Moscow and Kiev have accused each other of violating ceasefires on several previous occasions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed Trump's announcement, while Russia has not yet commented.
The ceasefire coincides with the anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany. Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously announced a ceasefire on May 8 and 9 for Victory Day celebrations, but Ukraine said Russia itself had violated the unilaterally declared ceasefire.
