President Donald Trump has said he has agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran.
Trump stressed that the ceasefire agreement was made conditional on Iran agreeing to reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz.
"Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, and since they requested that I refrain from the use of destructive force that was planned for tonight against Iran, and provided that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to the FULL, IMMEDIATE and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I am agreeing to suspend the bombing and attack on Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a two-way Ceasefire!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump further added that the reason he made the decision was that the US has already met and exceeded all military objectives, and that they are very close to a final agreement regarding long-term peace with Iran.
"We received a 10-point proposal from Iran and we believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate. Almost all of the various points of previous disagreement have been agreed upon between the United States and Iran, but a two-week period will allow the agreement to be finalized and concluded. On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also representing the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor that this long-standing problem is close to being resolved," he added.

Israel is also part of the two-week ceasefire, a senior White House official told CNN.
"Israel has also agreed to suspend its bombing campaign while negotiations continue," the official said.
