US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday in a post on Truth Social that he is not surprised by the action of NATO allies not to assist the US in opening the Strait of Hormuz.
He stated that he has always considered NATO "a one-way street," adding that he no longer needs the alliance's help.
"Due to the fact that we have had such great military success, we no longer 'need' or want the help of NATO countries — We never have! Neither do Japan, Australia or South Korea," he wrote.
The post came after Trump had sought the help of NATO allies to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz and after many major countries dismissed this as a possibility.
During a meeting in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump also said that NATO allies were making a "foolish mistake."
"We don't need them, but they should have been there," he said.
Meanwhile, asked if he had a "day after" plan for Iran, Trump said that if they left now, Tehran would need "10 years to rebuild."
