US President Donald Trump has called for an immediate halt to retaliatory attacks between Iran and Israel, after clashes between the two countries jeopardized his fragile diplomatic efforts.

"Israel and Iran must immediately stop the 'attacks,'" Trump wrote early Monday on the Truth Social network.

And in another post later, Trump wrote that Israel and Iran are trying for a ceasefire.

"Both sides, Israel and Iran, are seeking an immediate ceasefire. Final negotiations for 'Peace' are continuing...The blockade will remain in place and in full force until a 'Final Deal' is reached. Things must move quickly," Trump wrote.

According to a US official, during a phone call on Sunday, Trump asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from launching a retaliatory attack against Iran.

This call came at a time when the exchange of attacks between Israel and Iran is raising concerns about a new escalation of the conflict in the region and is jeopardizing diplomatic efforts to maintain the ceasefire and reduce tensions.
