US President Donald Trump appears to have ruled out negotiations with Iran to end the war in the Middle East, after writing on social media on Friday that there would be no deal without "unconditional surrender" from Tehran.

Trump has stated in recent days that whoever takes over the leadership of Iran must be with the consent of the US.

"After that, and the election of an acceptable leader, we and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better and stronger than ever before," he said.

At the end of his post, Trump wrote "Let's Make Iran Great Again," the slogan he has used since his presidential campaign for the US: "Let's Make America Great Again."
