The Trump administration deployed about 4,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles on Monday in response to protests against immigration raids, The Guardian reported on Tuesday.

Despite facing tear gas and other ammunition over the weekend, protesters continued to protest on Monday, and families of detained immigrants demanded the release of their loved ones.

The Trump administration initially said 2,000 National Guard members were being sent to Los Angeles, but California Governor Gavin Newsom later on Monday announced that he had been informed that federal officials were sending 2,000 additional troops, although, according to him, only 300 have been deployed so far.

Newsom has opposed these measures, considering that the city is being used as an "experiment."
