US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he will sign the rare earth minerals deal with Ukraine "very soon", CNN reports.

"We are doing good work with Ukraine and Russia. And one of the things we are doing is signing very quickly the agreement regarding rare earth minerals with Ukraine," he said.

The signing of the agreement brought Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House last month, but ultimately the agreement remained unsigned after the Ukrainian leader's tense meeting in the Oval Office with the US president and his deputy JD Vance.

Projecting optimism about reaching an agreement that ends the war in Ukraine, Trump mentioned his recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We spoke yesterday with, as you know, President Putin and President Zelensky, and we would like to see this concluded, and I think we are showing results in that regard," he added.

Asked about the minerals deal on Wednesday, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that talks between the US and Ukraine "have gone beyond the economic agreement on minerals," focusing on "the partial ceasefire, as well as the next steps toward a full ceasefire and lasting peace in this conflict."
