US President Donald Trump has said that a peace deal in Gaza is very close.

"I think we probably have a deal," he told reporters outside the White House. "We're very close to making a deal in Gaza, and it looks like we have a deal."

Trump has said he believes the deal "will bring back the hostages" and that "it will be a deal that ends the war."

The US president did not provide further details.

According to Hamas-led authorities in Gaza, Israeli attacks have killed more than 65 people since 2023. Hamas does not distinguish between civilian or militant casualties, but has said that women and children account for about half of the dead.

The Gaza war began when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing an estimated 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping 251 others. 48 hostages, less than half of whom are believed to be alive, remain in Gaza.
