A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck early Saturday near the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka region, the U.S. Geological Survey reported, ABC News reports. The quake's epicenter was 111.7 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 39 kilometers.
There were no reports of injuries or major damage.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning System said there was a threat of a possible tsunami from the earthquake, but later removed the alert from its website.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said warnings were issued for coastal areas regarding a slight change in sea level, but this meant the possibility of damage was minimal.
Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula was hit by five powerful earthquakes - the largest with a magnitude of 7.4 on July 20 this year.
