Tsunami advisories have been issued in southern Japan after back-to-back earthquakes of magnitude 6.9 and 7.1 were reported on Thursday afternoon.
A tsunami warning has been issued for coastal regions on Japan's southern islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issues a tsunami advisory for waves of up to one meter, with a force that could capsize small ships. People are advised to avoid coastal areas.
Videos on social media show people sitting down as the Earth begins to shake after two consecutive earthquakes.
No damage has been reported yet.
