Greece is facing an extreme heatwave expected to last more than a week, with temperatures reaching 45.8°C in the Peloponnese and 42°C in Athens on Friday.
On Saturday, temperatures reached 44°C, and authorities temporarily closed the Acropolis during the hottest hours of the day.
Multiple fires have spread to several regions, including Feneos, where over 2.800 hectares of forests and pastures have been destroyed, and Kilkis, where homes and a university were evacuated, AP reports.
Meanwhile, the largest workers' union GSEE has called for stricter legal rules on heat protection, highlighting the increasing risk to workers due to climate change and the lack of effective implementation of current measures.
Several fires have also been reported in Albania near the Greek border.
