At least four dead in a shooting at a high school in the US

At least four people are reported dead as a result of a gun attack at a high school in Georgia, USA.

Another 30 people were injured in the shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, MSNBC reported, citing unnamed law enforcement officials briefed on the incident.

A suspect is in custody, the Barrow County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The incident appears to be under control and students were released by noon, a Barrow County Schools spokesman said.

Live television footage shows several ambulances outside the high school.

CNN reported witnessing a patient being loaded into a medical helicopter that had landed at the school.

The US has faced hundreds of school and college shootings in the past two decades, with the deadliest resulting in more than 30 deaths at Virginia Tech in 2007. 

The massacre has sparked fierce debate over US gun laws and the US Constitution's Second Amendment, which provides for the right "to keep and bear arms."
