At least 16 people died on Wednesday in China's Sichuan province, as a result of a fire in a shopping mall.
Firefighters and rescue teams in the southwestern Chinese city of Zigong responded to a fire call at the 14-story commercial building and managed to evacuate 75 people, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
Videos posted on social media showed black smoke billowing from the huge building as many people trapped inside the building waited to escape.
Rescue efforts ended at 3:00 am on Thursday and a preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was caused by construction work.
It was not immediately known how many people were in the building when the fire broke out.
The building houses a shop, offices, restaurants and a cinema.
