Prisoners help fight fires in Los Angeles

Fire in LA

More than 1100 California inmates have helped fight wildfires in Los Angeles in challenging conditions, including strong winds. They have helped fight the Cal, Eaton and Palisades fires, the most dangerous fires that have ravaged the Los Angeles area in the past two weeks, the Associated Press reported.

They are helping to have the chance to reduce the sentence or be released and this can help them find a job after they get out of prison.

For the work they do, prisoners receive between $5.80 and $10.24 per day, depending on the work they perform.

Department officials have stated that the inmates are volunteers in firefighting and are aware of the potential dangers.
