US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham met for the first time on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, Trump praised the new British Prime Minister, whom he said was better than the former Prime Minister, Keir Starmer.
Donald Trump was polite and respectful throughout most of the brief press conference he held with Andy Burnham, but towards the end he couldn't resist a jab at Starmer.
Asked about US-UK relations by a journalist, who noted that they had had their ups and downs, Trump replied: No, I think they are at a high level.
"They are at a higher level now than they were under your last prime minister, let's put it that way," he declared.
Once upon a time, the relationship between Trump and Starmer was good.
But it has worsened when Starmer began publicly criticizing Trump on issues such as his proposal to annex Greenland and the claim that British troops were avoiding frontline fighting in Afghanistan.
And the complete break occurred when Keir Starmer refused to allow the US to use British air bases for attacks against Iran at the start of the war.
