An Israeli airstrike has killed at least 28 people and injured dozens more at Gaza's European Hospital in the city of Khan Younis, local officials have said. BBC Tuesday.

Israeli military aircraft dropped six bombs simultaneously on the hospital, hitting both its inner courtyard and the surrounding area.

The Israeli Army said in a statement that the "precision strike" had hit a base of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, claiming that the base in question was located below the hospital.

According to health sources and eyewitnesses, the dead and injured have been transferred to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.

Israel ended a ceasefire with Hamas in March and resumed military operations that have so far left tens of thousands of people dead.

According to Israeli officials, the resumption of military attacks is aimed at increasing pressure on Hamas in order to release all hostages held in Gaza.

The war erupted as a result of Hamas's attack on Israel in October 2023, which resulted in the killing of nearly 1200 people and the kidnapping of about 250 others.

Meanwhile, Israel's retaliatory offensive has so far killed over 50,000 people, figures considered credible by the United Nations.
