British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has described the decision of the Israeli security cabinet to "further escalate the offensive" in the Gaza Strip as "wrong", while calling on the Israeli government to reconsider it immediately, the BBC reported.
"These actions will not bring an end to the conflict and will not help in the release of the hostages. It will only bring more bloodshed," he said. "The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening every day, while the hostages captured by Hamas are being held in terrible and inhumane conditions."

Letter to the Reader — Why We're Asking for Your Support ContributeStarmer added that what is needed "is a ceasefire agreement, increased humanitarian aid, the release of all hostages from Hamas and a negotiated solution."
He further stressed that the UK "together with allies, is working on a long-term plan that secures peace in the region as part of a two-state solution, to ultimately build a brighter future for both Palestinians and Israelis."
On the other hand, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a few weeks ago that France would recognize Palestine as a state, with the decision expected to be ratified at the United Nations General Assembly in September.
His initiative was echoed by Starmer himself, who stressed that Britain would also recognize a Palestinian state in September, if Israel does not take significant steps to stop the war in Gaza.
Canada and Malta have also joined their plans, after France and 14 other countries signed a declaration about future recognition of the Palestinian state.
