British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has dismissed claims that he has lost political authority, stating that he has no intention of resigning and that he will fight to keep his post.
Starmer's statement comes a day after the resignation of Defence Secretary John Healey, who accused the prime minister of failing to secure the necessary financial resources for the country's defence and security. Healey's resignation has increased pressure on the British leader and fuelled speculation about a possible challenge to his leadership.
"I'm not leaving," Starmer declared in his first public comments since Healey's departure, adding that he was ready to face any rival who sought to replace him. He stressed that whoever took over the government would face the same economic and fiscal constraints.
Starmer rejected the former Defence Secretary's criticism, insisting that defence and national security remain his government's top priorities. He said difficult decisions had been made to cut spending in other sectors in order to increase investment in defence.
