Spain remains on high alert for the heat, especially after a temporary June temperature record of 46 degrees Celsius was set on Saturday afternoon in El Granado in the Andalusian province of Huelva.
The previously highest temperature recorded for June was 45.2 degrees Celsius, recorded in Seville in 1965, The Guardian reports.
Spain's state meteorological office, Aemet, and its Health Ministry have warned people to take extra care due to the heat.
"We expect abnormally high and persistent temperatures, both during the day and at night, which could pose a risk to vulnerable or exposed people," Aemet said in a statement on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has urged people to monitor weather alerts, stay hydrated and out of the sun, and check on those who may be at risk.
"Remember that while heat affects us all, it affects different people in different ways," the ministry said.
Spain recorded its highest temperature ever in August 2021, in the Andalusian town of Montoro, near Cordoba, which reached 47.4 degrees Celsius.
