The wearing of masks in hospitals and health care centers in Spain will start from Wednesday, due to the increase in cases of respiratory diseases, the Ministry of Health has announced, reports the "AP" agency.
The new ruling coalition of the left has imposed these measures, despite opposition from most of Spain's 17 autonomous regions.
"We are talking about wearing a mask when you enter health centers and leaving when you leave," said the Minister of Health, Monica Garcia for "Cadena Ser". "I don't think it's any drama. It is a simple measure".
Spain's hospitals have been under great pressure in recent weeks following an increase in cases of flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses.
The Minister of Health decided the measures after failing to reach an agreement with the regional health authorities. Most of them said that masks should be used, but not made mandatory.
