Today is World Refugee Day.
World Refugee Day aims to draw attention to the suffering of tens of millions of refugees around the world.
On World Refugee Day many of them have no hope of returning to their former homeland. Millions of families have lost their homes during conflicts of violence and war. The General Assembly therefore decided that June 20 should be marked as World Refugee Day.
World Refugee Day was established by the United Nations to honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes under the threat of persecution, conflict and violence.
Europe is currently going through a refugee crisis which started when large influx of people started to flee the conflict in the Middle East and Africa.
The latest United Nations figures show that over 70 million people have fled their countries because of wars around the world.
