Population growth in the United States was the smallest ever in the first year of the pandemic.
Among the main causes are mentioned: low immigration, postponement of pregnancies and hundreds of thousands of deaths related to the coronavirus.
The United States Census Bureau has shown that the population increased by 0.1 percent or by 392,665 people in the period July 2020 - July 2021.
This increase has brought the total population to 331.8 million inhabitants.
Population growth has faced slow rates in the US in the past as well, but the latest figures are also the result of the pandemic.

"I expected a decrease, but not this much," said William Frey, senior researcher at the Brookings Institution, in a response to the Associated Press news agency.
"This shows us that the pandemic has had a great impact in all areas, now also in demography".
"We have an aging population and that means fewer women are of reproductive age," he said.
"We see young people pushing back the age at which they want to have children, and they want to have fewer children."
Another report released on December 21 showed that life expectancy fell by 1.8 years in 2020 in the US.
This is also the largest decrease in more than 75 years.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average human life expectancy is now 77 years, up from 78.8 in 2019.
