US says it is ready to sign minerals deal this afternoon

Donald Trump

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters on Wednesday that Washington is "ready to sign" the minerals agreement with Ukraine.

During a cabinet meeting at the White House, US President Donald Trump was asked by reporters about the deal, which he then directed to Bessent, The Guardian reports.

"Our side is ready to sign," Bessent said, adding that the Ukrainian side had decided last night to make some last-minute changes.

"We are confident that they will reconsider it, and we are ready to sign it this afternoon," Bessent announced.

According to him, nothing has been removed or changed from the agreement.

"It's the same agreement we agreed to at the weekend. There are no changes on our part."
