Officials from the United States of America have warned that a humanitarian ceasefire will be established between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Monday.
This State Department announcement comes after US Secretary Mike Pompeo's meeting with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, who have pushed for a peace deal and a meeting with the leaders of the OSCE Minks Group. The leaders of the Group, led by France, Russia and the USA, are mediating in achieving this ceasefire.
"During their intensive discussions, the co-chairs and foreign ministers discussed the implementation of an emergency humanitarian ceasefire, its monitoring and the start of discussions on the resolution of the conflict," the Minsk Group said in a statement, Reuters writes.
The humanitarian ceasefire is expected to take effect on October 26.
Despite this, new fighting broke out on Sunday between Armenian and Azeri forces. The two sides have accused each other of blocking the resolution of the conflict.
