German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has pressed China to stand up to Russia more strongly over its war in Ukraine, as the two leaders pledged to work together to fight climate change.
While he was waiting for the meeting in Berlin, the German chancellor emphasized to the Chinese Prime Minister, Li Qiang, the need for increased transparency between the two countries, as he emphasized Germany's position against economic separation from China.
Scholzi and about half of his cabinet received the Chinese delegation for the visit, during which the two sides held high-level government consultations for the seventh time.
The meeting took place a day after Chinese President Xi Jinping met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in what is seen as an attempt by official Beijing to mend the strained relationship between the two countries.
Despite maintaining good relations with China, which is its largest trading partner, Germany has always criticized Beijing for supporting Russia's war in Ukraine.
During Tuesday's meeting, Scholzi urged the Chinese delegation to engage in order to persuade Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
