The Russian Defense Ministry said Ukraine attacked a military airport in the southern Russian city of Taganrog on Wednesday morning, firing six US-supplied ATACMS missiles, and vowed retaliation.

The ministry said in a statement that all six missiles were shot down or intercepted, but that debris from the missiles caused injuries among some of the personnel, reports Reuters.

"There was no damage, two buildings in the technical territory of the airport and three military vehicles, as well as civilian vehicles in the parking lot next to the airport were slightly damaged (by shrapnel)," the ministry's statement said.

"This attack by Western long-range weapons will not go unanswered and appropriate measures will be taken," the statement added.
