Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia wants a comprehensive peace agreement, not a temporary ceasefire, when asked if Moscow could agree to a Christmas ceasefire.

If Ukraine wants to replace an agreement with "temporary and unstable solutions, we are unlikely to be ready to participate," Peskov said.

"We want peace, we don't want a ceasefire that would give Ukraine a break and prepare for the continuation of the war," he told reporters.

"We want to stop this war, achieve our goals, secure our interests and guarantee peace in Europe for the future," he added.

Asked to comment on the discussion of US and European leaders on security guarantees for Ukraine, Peskov said the Kremlin would wait for the documents to be finalized.

"We haven't seen the text yet. When we see it, we will analyze it," he added.
