Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 25 prisoners of war each after negotiations mediated by the United Arab Emirates, Reuters reported.
"These are our soldiers and civilians," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on the social network X. He stressed that many Ukrainian prisoners had health problems and needed medical help.
The Russian Defense Ministry has announced that the Russian prisoners are currently in Belarus receiving medical assistance. "The released servicemen will be transported to the Russian Federation for treatment and rehabilitation in medical institutions of the Russian Defense Ministry," the statement said.
Zelensky thanked the United Arab Emirates, which has brokered similar exchanges before.
The Ukrainian Coordination Center for Prisoners of War Affairs stated that the youngest prisoner was 24 years old and the oldest was 60 years old.
