Italian police have seized villas and yachts worth at least 140 million euros from four high-profile Russians who were placed on the EU sanctions list following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, sources told Reuters today.
A police source said a villa owned by billionaire businessman Alisher Usmanov in Sardinia and a villa on Lake Como owned by Russian state television host Vladimir Soloviev were seized.
Sources confirmed that the yachts belonged to Russia's richest man, Alexei Mordashov, and Gennady Timchenko, who has close ties to the Russian president. They were taken overnight in Italian ports.
The European Union announced a few days ago that it is targeting rich Russian people with assets in Europe, which it will control and sanction.
